The V-split is a chain link that branches in two perpendicular directions. Depending on which side it is set off from, it can be thought of as either a combination of the corner chain and boomerang or as an L-corner taken from the middle instead of one of the ends.
Like the sprout, a non-compact version of this chain is often generated by the randomizer. In this circumstance, it can be a free way to clear 7 petals and send 5 garbage during the midgame. However, building one explicitly is usually not very efficient in terms of time taken or compactness.
