Sprout

The sprout is a particular form of the corner chain. The spawner often produces these chains because its randomizer disfavors placing petals of similar colors adjacent to each other. As such, they often spawn two spaces away in any direction or diagonally adjacent instead, giving rise to this pattern. One should be careful as spawner-produced variants of this chain are unlikely to be compact, and as such can be broken by a later spawn.
It is a good pattern to look for in the midgame because it is useful when playing with an irregular open space in the middle of a relatively full board.
